General Accountants vs Specialised Accountants for influencers

Most accountants are generalists.

Which means they know a little about a lot of things.

A bit like your GP.

This is fine if you’re just starting out and only earning a few thousand from your trade.

How can accountants be different?

But when you start to grow, there are matters which would be beyond a generalist accountant.

The same way you would go to a specialist when you require heart or brain surgery. When you get to a certain size and level of income, you need specialist advice.

Particularly as you’ve discovered reading this short guide, that accounts and tax matters are not quite straightforward!

Using a specialist means that they know your industry a lot better than generalists. They have other clients like you which means they are familiar with issues to watch out for and how to solve problems you’re likely to have.

It means you are pre-warned before a problem happens and have time to take corrective action.

It means you have access to cutting-edge tax advice to help you keep more of what you earn. You won’t be surprised to hear that we are an example of a specialist accountant for content creators and influencers.

What can an expert influencer accountant do?

Not only do we deal with many people in your position, but I am a content creator and influencer in my own micro-niche too (influencing accountants... in case you wanted to know!).

The whole influencer space has been growing and evolving over the last few years and will continue to evolve. Things are changing fast and tax legislation and business structure have to keep up with the way that people like you earn their income these days.

Mike Thurston Case Study

Mike is an established influencer but when he came to us his tax affairs were in disarray. Through no fault of his own but because he was let down by his accountant who was a generalist and only concerned with doing a tax return once a year.

It took some time to piece together the correct presentation of Mike’s accounts and taxes for VAT purposes to HMRC, but we managed to do so in advance of HMRC getting in touch thereby saving Mike substantial amounts in penalties.

Subsequently, we have helped Mike to establish non-residence and structure his companies so that he gets to keep a hell of a lot more of his earnings than he used to!

We’ve invested heavily in only working in the influencer space and as a result, we’ve helped our clients with structuring themselves so that they pay very little tax.

An example of this is undertaking non-residence tax planning:

What that means is that we have helped our creator clients to establish tax residence in low (or zero) tax jurisdictions like Dubai to receive the majority of their income tax-free. Now the process is not simple and requires deliberate planning but it is possible if your circumstances fit and you’re able to move overseas for a while.

In Summary

Suffice to say that we love working with creators and influencers and are always learning and developing our expertise to help people like you keep more of what you earn and take the hassle away of looking after your finances.
